Ümit Aslim RIP
Ümit Aslim (39) arrived in Nepal on February 11, 2014. His last contact with his family was on Februari 12 where he mentioned that he had purchased a trekking ticket for the Annapurna circuit in Besisahar. He missed his planned departure date by air on February 21 and was reported missing on 8 March.
Ümit Aslim's tourist visa was issued for 15 days only and according to Immigration Visa Service Section in Pokhara, he had not extended his visa. His trekking permit (TIMS) was issued for the Annapurna circuit, but strangely enough he purchased a TIMS card for 5 days only.
He had registered at check posts between Bhulbule and Humde which he reached exactly on the day when his TIMS card expired (Februari 18). After that we found no more trace of any registration alongside the entire trek.
On March 29 the investigators of SAR DOGS NEPAL had completed their inquiries around the entire Annapurna Circuit. They had spread also another side profile photograph of Ümit that may have hopefully ringed a bell. A nation wide TV spot on Nepal Television was planned, still offering a reward of 50,000 Nepalese Rupees for the right lead.
On June 21, 2014 human remains were found in the forest of Dhikure Pokhari below Pisang. A local farmer who was searching for lost cattle found a corpse far off the beaten trekking route. The police of Chame identified Ümit Aslim and brought the corpse to Manang for further investigation.
We, the search teams of SAR DOGS NEPAL, are in deep sorrow over the demise of Ümit Aslim and herewith we wish to express our deepest sympathy to his family.
